Stop Smoking Cigarettes-5 Tips to Help You Quit

Many smokers feel that they can not stop smoking cigarettes. They have smoked for years and regardless of the health risks and financial liability cigarettes, they have continued. But you want to quit smoking, why else would you be reading this article.

I had smoked for 30 years with no desire to quit before I decided the financial costs were just too much. No, it wasn’t health concerns, I just did the math and wondered what I could have been doing with all that money I had let go up in smoke. It was pretty disheartening looking at those numbers. So here are 5 tips to help you stop smoking cigarettes..

1. Set a goal. A day to quit completly. Goals help you mentally prepare for the future. Reward yourself when you reach milestones which you have set up for yourself. To make it easier on the big day start saying no now. By that I mean when you get ready to light up, put the cigarette down and say to yourself, I can wait another minute, 5 minutes or more.

2. Set up a money jar. At the end of each day, put the money you would have spent on cigarettes into the jar. You’ll be amazed at how quickly the jar will fill up. And yes there probably will be days when you’ll not be adding money.

3. Don’t tell the world that you are trying to stop smoking. A supportive loved one is enough. You don’t need everyone around constantly asking how your quitting smoking is going. Remember you have to doing this for yourself and your loved ones not the rest of the world.

4. Replace cigarettes with another physical activity. For me it was shelled nuts. This keeps your hands and mouth busy, imitating the sensations which were associated with smoking. Vegetables such as celery or carrot sticks work well for this also.

5. Change your routines. Most smokers enjoy a cigarette after dinner, after sex, when they wake up in the morning. You need to find a replacement routine for these types of moments. Just make it a healthy one.

Stopping smoking cigarettes is not going to be an easy task, but just remind yourself that you have overcome other things in your life, this is just one more. I promise you will be greatly rewarded, both financially and health wise. Don’t beat yourself up if you slip up a time or two. Just pick up the next day so you can keep filling your jar.

If after all of this you still need help, as I did, check out Cigarrest. It helped me stop smoking cigarettes.
