Actually combining adsense or some other similar money generating ad system with affiliate marketing is the ideal system for revenue and longevity.
Information products with resell rights are a great way to go. Using free marketing such as safelists you can start generating revenue with a minimal investment. You can use free websites or blogs to host a simple page to start generating sales and leads.
